SPECIALTY SERVICES

Myofascial Release (MFR)/Triggerpoint (TP)

30 min/$60 | 60 min/$110

Myofascial release is the application of slow, sustained pressure to engage with major fascial layers of the body, along with tendons and ligaments (aka "friction" techniques). Sometimes the pressure is applied with a slow stretch. Trigger point is firm, targeted, sustained pressure to a small area intended to relieve the discomfort of "trigger points", spots on various areas of the body that cause discomfort or pain, sometimes referring to other areas of the body. Often these spots are colloquially called "knots" or tender points.  These techniques are done with very little oil or lotion, often without any at all, and can even be done over clothing. A session is typically focused on one or two specific regions of the body. This is a great choice for folks looking for more focused pain relief or injury treatment and prefer very little or no oil used.

The main differences between this and a more Swedish based massage, in terms of subjective experience, is the use of oil, and a Swedish-based massage tends to have more movement and flow.  The term "Mysofascial release" is a bit misleading as all massage techniques engage with fascia and connective tissue, and can be used to target specific regions of the body, with or without oil. â€‹

Cupping Massage

90 min/$170 | 120 min/$215

Available with Karen Oyama, June Nelson, and Carol Bui

Cupping massage is the use of silicone suction cups to apply ‘negative pressure’ or suction to the tissue with glide.   This treatment brings blood to the surface and provides a feeling of superficial myofascial release in ways that compression massage techniques can not.  We combine the 'moving cupping' technique with Swedish Massage for an ultra soothing experience.   Cupping is widely used in Traditional Chinese Medicine among other practices around the world. At Rapture, we rarely leave the cups stationary for any significant length of time.

Disclaimer:  Cupping therapy may leave light bruises.

Who should NOT receive Cupping Therapy?

Those with serious medical conditions such as cardiac failure, renal failure, any kind of liver illness, ascites due to hepato-cirrhosis and severe edema, organ failure, slipped discs, 3D varicosities hemorrhagic diseases such as allergic purpura, hemophilia and leukemia, and clients with dermatosis, destruction of skin, or allergic dermatitis.

Feet, Hands, and Scalp Massage

60 min/$110

It’s amazing how much work relies on our extremities. This is the ultimate TLC for these often overlooked parts of our body. We feel tension in our scalp and jaw with every day stress. Our feet bear our entire body weight, and as beings with opposable thumbs, our hands and fingers work hard through all the small tasks of every day living.  With the utmost attentive care, our therapist will knead, pull, rub, squeeze fingers, hands, feet and toes, but the wrists, forearms, ankles, and lower legs as well. We end the session with a delightful scalp massage for grounding.

Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD)

60 min/$110

Available only with June Nelson, LMT

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a gentle technique used to alleviate edema and lymphedema by encouraging increased lymphatic circulation throughout the body. During treatment, June uses light, stretching strokes on the skin to redirect excess fluids from the tissues back into the lymph nodes and decrease fluid retention. It can be effective for relieving swelling after injury or surgery, and can also be used 1-3 days prior to surgical procedures to prepare the body for the recovery period. MLD may be used as a standalone treatment or in combination with other massage techniques.

As with other types of massage, it is not appropriate for people experiencing heart conditions, uncontrolled high blood pressure, kidney dysfunction, blood clots, or infection.

Breast and Chest Massage

60 min/$110

Available only with June Nelson, LMT

Breast and Chest Massage provides support for breathing, circulation (blood and lymph), posture, lactation, and the immune system. This work also treats neck, rib, or shoulder injuries, mobilizes scar

tissue, and helps prepare for and/or recover from surgery.

Clients can choose how to be draped for breast and chest massage. Draped partial chest massage is done with breasts/chest covered. Focus is on muscle

attachments at the sternum and on the ribs. Soft breast tissue is mostly, though not totally,

avoided. Nipples and areolas are avoided. Undraped, full chest/breast massage is done with full chest and breasts uncovered. This entire area is massaged. The therapists' palm and/or forearm may glide over the nipples and

areolas within full breast/chest massage strokes.

Targeted work to the nipples and areolae are only done with a doctor's note.
