SPECIALTY SERVICES

Myofascial Release (MFR)/Triggerpoint (TP)

30 min/$60 | 60 min/$110

Myofascial release is the application of sustained pressure to engage with major fascial layers of the body, along with tendons and ligaments (aka "friction" techniques).  Sometimes the pressure is applied with a slow stretch.  Trigger point is firm, targeted, sustained pressure is a small area to relieve the discomfort of "trigger points", spots on various areas of the body that cause discomfort or pain.  Sometimes those spots are colloquially called "knots" or tender points.  These techniques are done with very little oil or lotion, often without any at all, and can even be done over clothing.  A session is typically focused on specific regions of the body.  Folks report pain relief and increased range of motion with these techniques.   This is a great choice for folks who prefer no oil or lotion to be used.

The difference in experience between this and a more Swedish based massage is the use of oil, and a Swedish massage tends to have more movement and flow to the strokes.   (Note that Swedish techniques also engage with fascia and connective tissue).

Ashiatsu, also known as Barefoot Massage

90 min/$180 | 120 min/$225

Currently only offered by Jo Anderson, Sunday through Wednesdays

Ashiatsu is a luxurious unique style of massage where the practitioner uses bare feet to press and glide into tense tissue. The balls and heels of the feet deliver
smooth deep pressure while the Therapist balances into the body using bars mounted on the ceiling. Ashiatsu has its roots in Indian and Japanese culture and was introduced to western bodywork by Massage Therapist Ruthie Hardee.

Jo has their formal training in this modality from DeepFeet Bar Therapy and has adapted their style to include long gliding strokes down the back and back of legs, and targeted focus work with trigger point and myofascial release techniques for the upper shoulders, hips and feet. Jo likes to transition to hands on work for the front side of the body for a more detailed session,
but is happy to perform Ashi for the front of the legs upon request.

*Please note this style of massage is not appropriate for folks with high blood pressure, arthritis, fibromyalgia, those who have suffered a stroke, or anyone experiencing
pregnancy. Exceptions may be made for folks with well managed symptoms and a doctor's note (exception does not apply to pregnancy).

Cupping Massage

90 min/$170 | 120 min/$215

Cupping massage is the use of silicone suction cups to apply ‘negative pressure’ or suction to the tissue with glide.   This treatment brings blood to the surface and provides a feeling of superficial myofascial release in ways that compression massage techniques can not.  We combine the 'moving cupping' technique with Swedish Massage for an ultra soothing experience.   Cupping is widely used in Traditional Chinese Medicine among other practices around the world. At Rapture, we rarely leave the cups stationary for any significant length of time.

Disclaimer:  cupping therapy may leave light bruises.

Who should NOT receive Cupping Therapy?

Those with serious medical conditions such as cardiac failure, renal failure, any kind of liver illness, ascites due to hepato-cirrhosis and severe edema, organ failure, slipped discs, 3D varicosities hemorrhagic diseases such as allergic purpura, hemophilia and leukemia, and clients with dermatosis, destruction of skin, or allergic dermatitis.
